Do you run portable or emergency operations?
In order for an antenna to be effective it must be portable and yet practical. It does the radio operator little good to attempt portable communications with an antenna that is difficult to erect. Running portable communications such as EmComm and special events is generally done in an enclosed area such as a screened room, canopy, or tent. This places the actual radio gear away from the antenna which helps prevent interaction of the radio gear with the antenna. These types of operations (including Field Day) are a natural fit for the Tilt-N-RaiseĀ® portable antenna mount. Besides the separation available between the rig and the antenna you can use the time saved on portable antenna erection on actually communicating over the radio.
Types of portable antennas
Some radio operators that are new to EmComm, special, events or other portable communications operations may be curious as to what types of antennas are best suited for communications. We have taken the liberty of assembling some articles found by scouring the Internet in search of portable antenna designs. It will come as no surprise that the majority of portable communications antennas fall into the categories of vertical antennas or wire antennas.
Within these two main antenna categories there are various different designs in use. Below you will find links to other pages on our site detailing the various portable antenna articles found. If you have or know of an article on portable communications antenna that is not on this site then please contact us about them.
